Juvenile delinquency cases are cases involving a minor under the age of 17 who has been accused of committing an offense that would be considered criminal if committed by an adult. Another type of delinquency case is a status offense. Status offenses are cases involving minors who repeatedly disobey their parents, fail to attend school, or run away from home. The family division of the circuit court in your county can give you additional information.
Child protective proceedings involve cases where a child has been abused or neglected by an adult. In these types of cases the court protects the child. Such children might be placed in a foster care home while the court determines how the family can be helped.
The family division of the circuit court also handles cases where a minor has been charged with a misdemeanor traffic violation.
