Question
When I was 17 years old, I gave birth to my beautiful daughter. Because
I was a minor I had to give guardianship to my parents because I knew that
I was not able to care for my daughter. Ii was living with my parents
and I was still in high school. Now I am 20 years old, still living
with the parents, but working on moving out and starting my own life.
I am in the army reserves and a full time student at the university here.
Things here are becoming to be out of hand and I know that it is not healthy
for both my daughter and I. Now the question is there any way I can
take the guardianship away?
What are the steps that I must take in order to terminate the guardianship
without my parents fighting me on the situation. I want to move on
with my life but I can not with them holding me back and I refuse to leave
my daughter with them!
Answer
A parent may file a petition with the probate court requesting that the
minor guardianship be terminated. This may be done at any time.
Once it is filed, a hearing is set and the matter is heard by the court.
