Child Support - May I obtain information about the child support paid by
my parents since I am now an adult?
Question
I am trying to get information about the child support record for myself.
My father lives in Michigan and my mother in Colorado. I have heard two
different stories about what happened. I need to know how much was paid,
ect. I am 24 years old now and married. How do I obtain this
information?
Answer
Michigan Court Rule [MCR 3.218] only allows friend of the court information
to be released to the parties, their attorneys, and custodians/guardians
(not to a child on a case, even when that child becomes an adult).
We would not be able to release this information to you, but we could release
it to either your mother or father. The court rule does state that
"any person who is denied access to friend of the court records....may
file a motion for an order of access with the judge assigned to the case..."
