Question
If I attempt to get emancipated, do I have to get emancipated from both
parents? How can I nullify the custody of one parent and not the other?
Is that possible? Maybe there is a different name for it and that's
why I'm not finding enough information under emancipation.
Answer
In Michigan, if you are emancipated, you would be emancipated from all
parental control and not just from one particular parent. The rights
of one of your parents to your care and custody may be affected by a custody
order entered by the family division of the circuit court. Such an
order, however, could not be obtained by you but only by your parents when
one of them initiates a custody dispute.
