Emancipation - How will emancipation affect benefits which I am entitled
to receive?
Question
Im 16 and about to be emancipated. I'm wondering if I would still
receive SSI. from my dad's disability or back child support. I'm not sure
right now which one it is I'm receiving. I do know it's a lump sum
for back pay and I then receive monthly checks from the same place.
Whether or not it is child support or SSI would I be able to receive either
one when I am emancipated.
Answer
Becoming emancipated should not affect benefits to which you may be entitled.
Such benefits are usually received because of your chronological age rather
than you legal status.
