Minors - What can be done to force a 17 year old to live in her parent's
home?
Question
I really hope you can help me. I have a 17 year old daughter, she
moved out 2 December 2001, because she did not like our rules and curfews.
I have talk to every one I could think of, we want her back but she does
not want to come back. What laws is there for us ( the parents) concerning
her since she is only 17 years? Is there any way we can make her
come back? She is dating a 21 one year old and he seems very controlling
and going out of town (down State) with out our permission and her whole
attitude has changed. She is working co-op when she feels like it.
WHAT CAN WE DO?
Answer
A person is generally no longer subject to Family (Juvenile) Division jurisdiction
once s/he turns 17 and the adult system has no jurisdiction over the type
of behavior you have described. Other than trying services on a voluntary
basis, there is very little that can be done.
