Emancipation - Can I still receive child support if emancipated?

Question

I was wondering a few things that I could not find on the site.  I was wondering if I could still get child support from my father, and if I could live with another adult besides my mother if I was emancipated.

Answer

If the child is emancipated, there would be no child support obligation by either parent, as the child is considered an adult except for arrearages that accrued before the emancipation..  If the child is NOT emancipated and lives with another adult, the Court can order that support be directed to that third party, and can order it from both biological parents.  The support is owed to the custodian, not to the child.
