Parenting Time - Can a minor at the age of 17 be forced to go on court
ordered visitation?
Question
Can a minor at the age of 17 be forced to go on court ordered visitation?
Answer
It is the responsibility of the custodial parent to assure that a child
is prepared physically and emotionally to participate in court ordered
parenting time. A minor child (under 18) is under the jurisdiction
of the court, and if the court order states that the non custodial parent
has specific parenting time then, yes, the minor child is required to go.
If the custodial parent does not encourage the parenting time and it does
not occur, the non custodial parent can request enforcement through the
friend of the court and the court may consider sanctions if there is a
finding of contempt.
