Child Support - Is the non custodial parent obligated to help in the tuition
payments for a private school?
Question
In a child support case, is the non custodial parent obligated to help
in the tuition payments for a private school?
Answer
Education expenses can be considered "support" under the statutes in Michigan,
but a parent's obligation to pay such expenses would have to be by court
order, i.e. unless the court orders a non custodial parent to pay the tuition
payment, there is no legal obligation to do so.
