Probate - Who is responsible for the animals of a decedent?
Question
In an intestate estate, if animals were part of decedent's home would the
person who takes over the care of animals be entitled to compensation for
animal care?
Answer
Animals would be considered to be estate property. The estate would
be responsible for animals during estate administration until the animals
are distributed to a devisee. Once they are distributed, they would
be the responsibility of the individual receiving them.
